Landscape has developed a unique data management system specifically for handling large amounts of business data. This database currently contains details on more than 7.5 million current and former businesses in Japan.
This large database contains all of the registered information about each company including branch office locations, headquarters locations, and service depots. It also contains many small and medium sized Japanese businesses not typically found in other commercial business databases. It contains not only the basic company information like address and phone and FAX numbers, but also company type, number of employees, names of executives and directors, and useful financial information.
Many customers use this data to supplement data obtained from the “Town Pages Database” sold by NTT Information Development Corporation.
Landscape’s Corporate Database contains a unique business linkage code (LBC) for each and every company or branch or division. This linkage code facilitates the analysis of a company’s corporate structure by surfacing the various relationships which in turn becomes a valuable strategic marketing tool useful in effectively marketing to related companies or divisions of existing customers.
The IDB contains 7.5 “active” (current) company records and >1.5 million “inactive”* company records. This Corporate Database (IDB) is categorized by government organization, public interest corporation, company group, parent company, affiliated company, branch office, plant, small and medium-sized companies, and private stores. Each company’s nationwide business locations are also included.
* special note: the IDB actually contains >9 million company records when considering names of companies now out of business, companies with new names, bankruptcies, and old company names prior to mergers, etc.
The Database Updating Process
The updating process is continuous to help maintain currency and consistency.
The data is also kept “fresh” (current) by periodically crossing it with more than 20 data master files such as Abbreviated Company Name Master, Address Master, Building Master, and Area Code master that Landscape has built and maintained over the years to help standardize its company name and address data as well as repeated data cleansing and duplicate identification processing.
