Landscape maintains the largest database of personal information in Japan

Landscape has built the largest commercial database containing personal information in Japan containing >95,000,000 individual records.

This database is managed by its unique IDB and SDB technologies which permits updating and optimizing of the database in real time. This database has been built and is maintained in compliance with the current data privacy regulations. All appropriate measures of ensuring and maintaining confidentiality of and protection of this data have been taken. Opt-out data identified from the Mail Preference Service (MPS*) is immediately flagged and removed from this database.

* The MPS service is one where consumers can request through a toll free telephone number that they do not want to receive any direct mail and their name and address data is deleted from this database.

■ What is the Integrated Database (IDB)?

IDB stands for "Integrated Database," in which all data is organized by address and household. IDB covers the entire nation and lists over 44 million households. Since the total number of households in Japan is 46 million (in the year 2000 according to the Bureau of Statistics, Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, P&T), it can be said that IDB covers almost all households in Japan.
Furthermore, IDB provides a function for multiple search and selection not only by address but by other segmentation keys such as age or gender.

Merits of IDB

1. Multiple search criteria (e.g., It is easy to search for and select all 26-years-old males living in Setagaya ward).
2. Can be utilized for analyzing customer data for each geographic area.
3. Ability to exclude data collectively for all family members in case a mailing should not be delivered to any one of them.

■ What is the Separated Database (SDB)?

SDB stands for "Separated Database," in which all of the data is sorted by specific properties and stored in the particular file categorized by that attribute in question (the List Property). Attributes are classified into 55 major categories.

However, at the list level, there are some three thousand or more detailed categories. Such detailed categories are used to sort each of the 95 million data possessed by LANDSCAPE . This enables us to select and supply only detailed data for the group of customers that a client wishes to target.

Merits of SDB
1. Quick selection by specific attributes (List).
2. Ability to select pinpointed data by specifying multiple attributes.
3. Ability to select the most preferable customers by understanding their characteristics.
